About Us/ MOKPIERA
Our Golden Tree Approach
Our Philosophy
At MOKPIERA, we believe that the solution to unsafe migration lies not in charity, but in changing mindsets, building capacity, and unlocking homegrown potential . Our philosophy is rooted in the conviction that young people already possess the “gold” they seek elsewhere ,it simply needs to be revealed, refined, and rooted within their own communities.
Through The Golden Tree, we challenge migration dreams by blending experiential learning, cultural reflection, and practical skills. We begin by confronting migration aspirations through realistic simulations that expose youth to the true struggles and trade-offs of life in the south. We then nurture critical reflection by reconnecting them to the richness of their environment, culture, and community. Finally, we equip them with marketable ICT and agricultural skills, enabling them to create sustainable livelihoods at home.
This approach ,which is the Flower, Fruit, Root, and leaves reflects our belief that transformation happens when young people see clearly, reflect deeply, and build boldly. Our work goes beyond training; it is a philosophical journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and community renewal, turning unsafe migration dreams into homegrown innovation.
Globally, over 281 million people, about 3.6% of the world’s population live outside their countries of birth (IOM, 2023). Migration is often driven by poverty, conflict, and the search for opportunity, with developing regions experiencing the greatest movement of people.
In Ghana, internal migration is far more common than international migration. Each year, thousands of youth, especially from the northern regions migrate southwards to cities like Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi in search of work. Many end up in informal, low-paying, or unsafe jobs such as head porterage (“kayayei”) or illegal mining.
This north–south migration mirrors global patterns of rural-to-urban and poverty-driven migration, showing how economic inequality, limited education, and lack of local opportunities push young people to move in search of survival rather than progress.
OUR GOLDEN TREE
The Golden Effects
Golden Root
The Golden Root
The Golden Root introduces digital skills and agriculture. Training begins with ICT and tech-enhanced farming. Participants start with basic computer literacy before moving into video editing, graphic design, website development, and social media marketing. Alongside ICT, beneficiaries are introduced to modern farming innovations such as hydroponics, irrigation systems, and digital farm management tools, rebranding farming as a smart and profitable business.
Golden Leaves
The golden leaves
The Golden Leaves represent the stage where our beneficiaries get to exhibit all the skills they have learned over the period. Just as leaves eventually fall from trees, our participants will also “fall off” the Golden Tree program. What this means is that they will graduate and go out to showcase their golden skill sets to the world. skill sets that will be dispensed with joy and fulfillment for the devellopment and progress of communities
Smart Farming for a Sustainable Future
MOKPIERA seeks transform agriculture through hydroponic farming, a modern and climate-friendly method where crops grow in nutrient-rich water systems without soil. This approach allows faster growth, saves space and water, and shifts how young people view farming. Through hands-on training, participants learn to build and manage hydroponic systems, use digital tools, and gain practical skills. The program targets returnees and vulnerable youth, helping them turn agriculture into a source of dignity, income, and community development.
The Golden Root: Empowering Youth Through Digital Skills
The ICT Hub, the Golden Root of MOKPIERA’s Golden Tree approach, equips young people with practical digital skills in graphic design, video editing, website development, social media marketing, and basic coding.
We believe that technology has bridged the gap between the North and South, creating opportunities for youth to earn, innovate, and build careers without having to migrate. Through hands-on projects and real-world experience, trainees gain confidence, develop portfolios, and learn to create sustainable jobs from the comfort of their own communities.
The most powerful tool today for change isn’t that risky journey; it’s a keyboard.

Our Core Values:
Innovation
Innovation is seeing possibility where others see limits. At MOKPIERA, we help young people turn ideas into reality ; whether through digital skills, smart farming, or creative problem-solving. Innovation is not just technology; it is curiosity, imagination, and the courage to build something new at home, creating opportunities that make life better for themselves and their communities.
Resilience
Resilience is the quiet strength that keeps you moving forward when life gets hard. Through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and practical training, our youth learn to face challenges without fear, adapt to change, and create solutions under pressure. It is the ability to stay, grow, and thrive in your own community, turning setbacks into stepping stones toward success.
Dignity
Dignity is knowing your worth and standing tall in your own story. At MOKPIERA, we nurture pride in culture, skills, and identity, showing young people that they can achieve, lead, and create impact without leaving home. It is the foundation of every decision they make , a reminder that their life, work, and dreams matter, and that home can be a place of opportunity and respect.
TheMOKPIERA Naming Story :
MOKPIERA literally means a migrant who has traveled in search of a better life but has not yet achieved the purpose for which they set out.
