Through skills and mentorship, MOKPIERA equips youth and women to thrive safely at home — turning potential into opportunity

About Us
The Story of MOKPIERA
Across northern Ghana, countless young people have taken the long road south in search of work and survival. With dreams of escape from poverty, they often end up in the crowded slums of Accra, Kumasi, and other cities. There, the promise of opportunity turns into the daily reality of exploitation, unsafe housing, and a cycle of hopelessness. Families are torn apart, children grow up without guidance, and entire communities are drained of their potential.
It was against this backdrop that MOKPIERA was founded. The name itself reflects its mission: it refers to migrants who have not been able to achieve the purpose for which they traveled, emphasizing the need for them to return home if necessary and reinvent themselves. Born from listening to the voices of migrants, MOKPIERA stands as a response to the painful truth that migration alone cannot solve poverty — but skills, opportunity, and dignity can.

From Our Beneficiaries

Working Globally, Living Locally
Before joining MOKPIERA’s ICT training, I felt trapped with no real opportunities. Through digital marketing skills, I discovered a whole new world. Today, I manage social media accounts for businesses and run online campaigns that earn me an income every month. What excites me most is the freedom I don’t need to leave home or migrate to find work. My laptop has become my office, and MOKPIERA gave me the key to open that door.

From Head Porterage to Website Builder
If not for MOKPIERA, I would have joined many young women traveling south to work as head porters, risking exploitation and abuse. Instead, I was trained in ICT and today I can design websites and optimize products for local businesses in Wa. What could have been a life of hardship has become a life of dignity, income, and opportunity right here at home.

Believing in Homegrown Solutions
MOKPIERA’s transformational learning changed my mindset. I used to think success only meant leaving for the south or abroad. But now, I see the beauty and potential in the north. I started a vegetable farm using climate-friendly practices, and with online tools, I market my produce directly to buyers , even outside Ghana. Today, I am proud to say my farm is growing, and I am proof that homegrown solutions work.
